Our Story
Founder and Executive Director Elizabeth Ndungu, a former Occupational Therapist and local restaurant owner, knows firsthand the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. Having navigated her own journey with a physical disability, she understands the importance of inclusion and opportunity. It was this understanding that fueled her desire to create Uwezo, a place where individuals with intellectual disabilities could thrive.
Driven by her own experiences, Elizabeth envisioned a world where everyone, regardless of ability, had access to meaningful employment and a chance to lead independent lives. With this vision in mind, she established Uwezo Community Initiative, dedicated to providing training and employment opportunities in the food service industry.
Uwezo not only offers practical skills training but also fosters a sense of belonging and purpose. We believe in the inherent potential of each individual and we work tirelessly to help them realize their abilities.
